This is not our grandparent's world. Our lives can, in a few ways, be considered much more difficult. One vital area is purchasing power. Our dollars; our salaries don't stretch as far as they once did. This is not only the current state of our society here in the United States, but these challenges are worldwide. Debt is at an all-time high while rainy-day funds for a basic emergency are at their lowest level. Costs for basic needs have exploded while wages have barely ticked upward.
